Cook County Treasurer

Maria Pappas, Treasurer:

The Cook County Treasurer’s Office has the primary duties of mailing, collecting, investing, and distributing all real estate taxes for the county.  There are approximately 1.6 million taxable parcels within Cook County, resulting in an annual collection of over $9 billion dollars.

Once funds have been collected, they are distributed to roughly 2,200 local government agencies. The agencies include school districts, villages, cities, townships, park and forest preserve systems, libraries, public health and safety agencies, election authorities, and economic-development agencies. The allocated funds are used to pay for public-works projects.
